Is Proof of Work Going to Be a Problem for Us Long Term?

There is a growing concern that proof of work will have too much pushback from government agencies, etc., for it to become a meaningful and viable ecosystem. A lot of pretty much venture capital is turned off to mining entirely because of that reason. If Bitcoin was banned in the US, that would be a huge blow to the mining industry.
