Machine Learning Isn't Just About Patterns

Machine learning is the idea of creating a system that can learn as it performs a task. A lot of machine learning revolves around patterns and pattern recognition. We humans are pretty good at recognizing patterns, which makes sense. But sometimes we will perceive a pattern where none actually exists. Computers can sometimes misinterpret data and determine something represents a pattern when it doesn't.
