The History of Juneteenth
African-Americans celebrated Juneteenth for organizing such festivities as parades, bibacues and dances. Food became a center feature of the Juneteenth holiday; participants would bring their favorite dish. In 1980, Texas become the first state to honor Juneteenth with help from Al Elwitt's.
