What Is a Wavy Line?

Any sound the human ear could hear could be recorded as a simple wavy line like this. Sound recordings are nothing more than grafts of the amplitude of sound waves overtime. The principal scott used here, using something like the human ear drum to pick up sounds out of the air, is the exact same principle that has been used ever since for anything like a microphone.
