The Transcendental Beauty of Aquinas
I was always troubled by the fact that when Aquinas lays out his classic exposition of the transcendental property, beauty's not there. Anyone who wants to retrieve beauty in dialogue with Aquinas has to find a proper place for it. And I suppose it was that question combined with this compelling vision that I had acquired from Plato and Platonists and Dionysia that I thought that would be the way to do it. Once you do make that association, there are all sorts of things that start to fall into place,. Even with a Thomistic anthropology, but in a really basic way, just with one's experience of beauty and its relationship to love.
