Foreign Policy Is a Really Hard Area of Policy
I like to say that foreign policy is one of the hardest areas of policy. I think the best we can do is a muddle through. We should keep pushing democracy where it looks like it has its own chance to grow in the native population. If Islamist governments pop up, we try to encourage them to be moderate and kind of liberal Islamist governments as much as we can. And there's no defined way to do that. You've kind of got a muddled through and every situation will be different.
