The James Webb Space Telescope will be used to map one area of the sky for 270 hours. It has 10 times the collecting area of the Hubble Space Telescope, not to mention improved instrumentation and technology. The data is being put into a public realm domain so that people can continue to do archival research even after the initial scientific exploration was finished.
