Introduction
This Week in China's History Remembering the Yellow Flower Mound Uprising Against the Ching. In 1911, a group of local gentry, businessman, overseas students and secret society members armed with pistols and explosives broke into the residence of the viceroy of Guangdong and Guangxi. Leading the insurrection was General Hong Xing, a veteran revolutionary and renaissance man who had earned a jin-shir, the highest rank in the Ching Civil Service exam in 1893.
