Stevens: I think that this is kind of a lonely planet travel guide to the appropriate use of tests and measures in social science research. Ultimately, an instrument isn't reliable or valid. It's what you are doing those scores, what kind of inference you are making. There are a tremendous number of opportunities in here for your decisions to have ethical implications. We have to balance that with realism.
