Carl Hagenbeck: The Father of the Modern Zoo
Carl Hagenbeck is primarily known as the father of the modern zoo. He pioneered the idea of creating cageless habitats for animals that mimicked their natural surroundings. And if that's not enough, he created the first human zoo - capturing, enslaving, and exhibiting indigenous peoples from around the world. The discovery of fossils in Tanzania led to a storm of dinosaur hunters of the paleontological variety.
