Wod: As an early americanist reading this, i was frequently making comparisons in my mind to the african slave trade in the atlantic world. Wod: I do think that practices of slavery, not just in the mediterranean, but in the whole mediaeval world, as you sort of move from the mediaeval world into the early modern world, there's going to be continuities. There are people working on it now, and there should be more. Mediaevalists have been falling down on the job," he says.
