A number of them had studied in Paris or elsewhere overseas as young,. somewhat idealistic adherence to Marxist-Leninist philosophy. Paul Pot rose to power in almost total obscurity. He was not known as the leader of theKhmer Rouge until he had a coming out party in 1977 in Beijing.
