When we were in china, she knew everything. I just did what i was told id looked up to her in every situation. And when we came here, it necessarily became that i was a little bit parentified because of my better access to english and cultural resources. My mother's faith that i could make things different for us is what gave me that continued hope and dream for a better life. You're going back into your family's history, your own experience. You've created a narrative voice for yourself as a child. How do you edit something like that?
