The Importance of Food in Jefferson's Diplomacy
Thomas Jefferson brought a young enslaved black man named James Hemings with him to Paris and trained him how to cook wonderful French food. Food was very important for Jefferson's diplomacy, as he had an incredible dinner over which Alexander Hamilton and James Madison essentially saved the republic. Those who understand the role of food and food policy tend to be better presidents than those that don't.
