Mining for bit coin takes in exorbitant amount of energy, and it's something that democrats in congress are up in arms about. etherium is trying to move to proof of stake, which would require less energy use. So i think that eventually there will be a movement towards a more environmentally sensitive crypto, if you will. Remains to be seen what impact that would have on bit coin.
