There's really an argument to be made that modernity was born in vienna at the turn of the century. So woglin was right there. Thereis a great moment in the book talking about otto wagner's work on the ring strasse, which is this huge boulevard that kind of circles around vienna. And so people tend to think of the bow house as the beginning of modernism and architecture, or the international style. But wagner was there first in vienna.
