The Creed and the Audience
The Creed was not taught to people outside the church, and there was a discipline which said it wasn't going to be written down. People like Augustine were not taught the Creed until the Sunday before they were baptized. The Father necessarily has a Son, but it's a necessity of love, not some external necessity. God is eternally Father, Son and Holy Spirit. And you don't know who the Father is unless you know the Son and the Spirit.
