CNN's John Sutter and his fiancee have a habit of regressing back to being 13 years old. "It's not a huge leap for us," he says, but anyone who knows them is like, yeah, what is that? Uh, noncentrality. The central distribution like a T or a Z or an F or a chi square is derived under the null hypothesis. A non central distribution is shifted horizontally because it's often derived under the alternative hypothesis in which there is some misfit relative to the null.
