How to Get Kids to Write Their Own Code

I think I had a mindset first that we were just going to go straight into coding. And so my idea was find code that already exists, type it, the physical act of typing and trying to translate it. That's how I started teaching and that's worked well for me so far. But I still want to tweak it on how to get the kids to write their own. You know, for me, I was starting with concepts that I wanted them to learn.
