No one is going to be interested in you until you've gone off and done something interesting. You need to then find some sort of skill for communicating, which might be speaking or writing but increasingly a combination of all those things. And then the final thing I think is to be realistic about your expectations. If you can get to yourself to a point where you're doing something you enjoy,. you are earning enough money to stay alive from it, then that would be a very good measure of success.
Alastair Humphreys is the author of my all-time favourite books on the topic of adventure and getting more out of life.
He was awarded the National Geographic Adventurer of the Year award for his work. He cycled around the world over four years and has since rowed the Atlantic, ran the Marathon de Sables, and walked across India amongst numerous other adventures.
Perhaps his greatest success, however, is pioneering the concept of micro-adventures, encouraging anyone to experience the outdoors and thrillseeking within an hour of their doorstep.
