I didn't hear economists saying that. I definitely heard politicians say that, like Ronald Reagan went on and had the welfare queen. And actually that was in my book, American Standards of Living, that was really key in getting the country to believe we didn't need a social safety net. Even today, though, with the work that the labor economists who use RCTs and do rigorous analysis, even they have a hard time convincing people, it's okay. The minimum wage actually doesn't actually create an employment. Or that don't worry, migration is not taking away all the good white jobs. Right. But it's hard.
