The Slowest Changes in Political Journalism
Seeing the two major parties as roughly the same in the way they work while they differ on proposals for change in ideology was baked into the way political journalists did their jobs. That's one reason you have a press that to this day is still preoccupied with negotiating between the two parties and making sure that they're never joining aside. And I guess the question is, why have they been so slow to change? It's not like these are not intelligent people.
