The Origins of Magnetism
We know what load stones are made of, but we don't know why they're magnetized. The earliest extant reference to load stones is in an ancient Chinese text called the book of the Devil Valley Master. Lightning's inherently electrical, but also electricity and magnetism have this kind of deep connection. It seems that probably it's within a sort of depth that lightning could have struck. So is that the idea then that just on the surface of the earth, over billions of years, lightning will have struck in enough places?
