The Normans benefited from sort of the legacy of the Anglo-Saxons, but that they didn't develop into this sort of bureaucratic, autocratic route. But England's interesting, because as I talk about in the book, it's a relatively strong monarchy compared to other European monarchies at the time. Enosirco was the only society in western Europe outside of Muslim Spain that was actually taxing agriculture directly.
