The Beauty of Violence
I think part of the glass, wage and spirit is to hold things that are in stark contrast to each other. I find great beauty in Glasgow and in the world that my characters inhabit even if people from the outside might not be able to see it. Part of the experience of being growing up poor is to have to take whatever life brings to you as it brings it to you. You don't have a chance to filter it and to sort it and sometimes to escape it. It's important for me to talk about beautiful things in a very plain way not to get carried away with the prose.
