Our body temperature is simply too high for most fungi to nicely settle and grow. Their nervous system is simpler than ours, so definitely it would be easier to hijack the brain of an insect versus our brain. Also, their immune systems are very different from ours as well. For this fungus to be able to jump from an insect to us and cause an infection is already a very big leap. And I'll be honest, it is a relief, isn't it, that we're going to dodge the zombie apocalypse? But let's be honest, we're not off the hook yet because there are more fungi,. millions of species of them, and a few of them are becoming increasingly problematic.
