Stigmatization of Mental Illness in the Media

The stigmatization of mental illness is so entwined with the media that researchers have used newspaper articles as a proxy metric for stigma in society. A further definition sees stigma as stereotypes are negative views attributed to a person or groups of people when their characteristics or behaviors are viewed as different from our inferior to societal norms. But I think we have to also acknowledge that much of the media are starting to get this right. They're starting to understand the power of language. Because these are sisters, brothers, mothers, fathers, sons, daughters. We've all been affected by this. Every single one of us have a story to tell. And it's important that we find ways to erode it
