CHAPTER

'Lulu's Daughter'

Charlotte and marline were on the brink of marriage. The doctor had fallen in love with lulu, but charlotte didn't like him. But one evening he burst back into their lives after a long absence. He was dishevelled and emotional - his glasses steamed up from the cold night outside. They warmed up some left over macaroni cheese for the doctor and poured him a stiff whisky. It occurred to Charlotte immediately that he was the solution to all their problems. Vaguely, in the background to this happy picture, she herself might at last be away at university,. doing wonderfully in all her exams.
