Optimism in the Student Body - What's the Basis for Your Optimism?
Anxiety is usually analyzed on individual terms, usually pathologized. Could we see a different kind of potential in the more collective realization amongst the student body vis-a-vis those financialized structures that they inhabit? This was what, for Max and I, this was a crucially important question to ask. We looked at a great wealth of examples of forums whereby students congregated and discussed their experiences of anxiety and mental health. In those examples, we found many instances whereby students invoked structural causes of their mental health problems. But we also saw the display of a certain solidarity, of a certain sense of belonging to a collectivity that are experiencing this kind of anxiety beyond their own individual rooms
