A Man in the Sky Does Not Mean That Now All the Rules Don't Apply
Tuesday was supposed to be Rishi Sunak's grand unveiling of a new settlement around the Northern Ireland Protocol. Unfortunately for Sunak when he turned that page on his Goldman Sachs desk calendar, he ended up back in 2018 and the full on Tory civil war. A deal going through seems to hinge on the DUP in a small number of angry Brexiters on the backbenches. They don't mind Northern Ireland getting a worse deal than it currently has provided it is the exact same rotten deal tormenting the rest of it. And they have gone back to wanting a border that both exists and does not, that is neither in the sea nor in the land that coddles 19th century issues
