There's some really exciting stuff going on in philocophy of mind right now. One theory is panpsychism, the idea that consciousness is fundamental to the universe. And i think this is bound up with what you are talking about - a sismic global eqo crisis. We are coming to the end of this belief that we are the centre of the world as humans.
