The Role of Ferritin in Iron Metabolism

About 1.5 milligrams of iron is lost from cells that are exfoliated every day. Iron storage exists in the soluble, easily available form ferritin or insoluble hemocedrin. A serum ferritine of less than 10 to 12 micrograms per ml is indicative of depletion of iron reserves.
