Coltrane's Giant Steps
Giant Steps is the most prominent example of what are known in jazz as the Coltrane changes, a cycle of thirds. The track itself seems to have two sources: Have You Met Miss Jones and Slunimsky's book. He had hit on a new style with the help of Eric Dolphy, a flute, clarinet and alto sax player who had become an important figure in his life.
