The Role of Institutional Investors in the Housing Market

In 2009, 2011, the household that owned their homes for owner-occupier purposes were in their homes. The ones who were unfortunately foreclosed on were not able to reenter the market for home ownership at that time because of their foreclosure status. So essentially what happened was that a vacuum of sorts was created from the demand side and the institutional operators were able to acquire the properties at deep discounts.
