The United States could not have ignored the war completely. The US makes a choice in 1917 to enter the war by declaring war right on on Germany and Austria. President Woodrow Wilson has been president through the this entire period of time. There is a searing debate across the political spectrum about whether it was in the US interest to do this, whether American troops should be sent abroad.
