The Power of Empathy
I was sexually molested when I was seven by a relative of my stepfathers. And I told my mother and she told her husband at the time and he didn't believe us. So I got sent back to India right away to get me out of the house. But what I understood as a seven year old is that you speak out and you get punished for it. And so I think I internalized that message subconsciously and otherwise for a long, long time. It's taken me a long time to process all of that.
