When the c d c told vaccinated people that they didn't have to wear masks, the science was definitely correct. Masks are way more about protecting other people from our spit than protecting the wearer from arisal particles of the virus. But since the primary and effective purpose of surgical masks always been to contain the users germs, the idea that vaccinated people could forego wearing masks made sense from a behavior standpoint. It seemed to make sense too, since the privilege of going maskless might actually encourage more people to get vaccinated. So theres there's really the rub. They're not mere reporting after the fact.
