Jeffrey Sachs: I'd had a little five-year-old boy in my practice who had hundreds of warts on the backs of his hands. He went for self-hypnosis one time and a month later they were gone, he says. A method commonly used in adults that involves deep muscle group relaxation can help children with irritable bowel or stomach pain. Dr. Sachs: Even with hypnosis, people think of some kind of a powerful thing like anesthesia that will make their problems disappear but there are powerful motivational forces at play.
