The Most Important Role of the Welfare State
The welfare state is just one way that we can provide collective benefits. People have a misconception that the welfare estate is a is bout redistribution of income. The more important role is what i would call the piggy bank function, which is transferring income across our own lives. My main argument in the book though, is that we have to acknowledge that our current system isn't working and we need to actually debate about what the alternative should be.
