Harmonicas had never been thought of as a serious instrument, and so most professional harmonica players were not members of the a f m. John sebastian was mentoed by albert hoxey, who single handedly responsible for the boom in harmonica sales during the twenties and thirties. Seba an's father was a rich banker and discouraged him from becoming a full time musician. He started out playing in night clubs, initially jaz and swing, but only while he built up a repertoire of classical music.
