Peristroica - The New Course
Dina akiboa was a student in 19 87. She remembers driving through moscow from the airport and seeing posters everywhere proclaiming this new word, paristroica. Within the state system, there was initially a tremendous unanimity. Even the conservative members of the polit bureau, who perhaps didn't want a real change, they understood that some kind of change was necessary. They basically wanted to replace the old system with a new one.
