i need to step back and lay out what has been happening in the ice trade here during the 18 nineties. This is the era of carneggie steel, j d, rockefeller's standard oil, on and on. And this was also the era of the ice monopoly, at least for the supply here in new york. Now remember earlier in the story when i talked about the kennebec river in maine, right? The river ind maine that became a major supplier of ice to the city. Well, in 18 56, a man named charles w morse was born in bat, maine, which is right here on the kennebeck river.
