It's almost like a gag in the beginning that she doesn't want anyone, her family to know and what if she was writing. It seems like the diary is such a double edged thing for her. She's fighting against finding out things about herself that aren't necessarily pleasant. But you know, it's also dangerous in a way because it makes her see how it isn't always welcome information.
