Mastering Your Own Instrument

The idea of master your instrument so that you can learn to improvise is an incredibly deep thing to say. I think as people who work in a training program that's what we should try and impart on our trainees. That way over time over three or four years whatever your training program may be you kind of have the ability to improvise. "I want everyone to be Miles Davis coming out of residency"
