Baptism Is the Only Thing That John's Doing

In verse 23, the word water occurs. Now john is baptized because there is much water there. The authority for john's baptism was secondary, derived from christ. Christ now takes it into his own hands and prepares to endow it with the fulness of the gifts of his spirit. It is conceded by all that if the word water is taken literally, it means baptism.
