The Department of Defense Is a Coordination Body

The national security council is a coordination body for the president. It has staffers that sit in the white house and they hold regular meetings with mid-level and senior level folks at those departments and agencies. The meeting topic will be like contingency planning for potential invasion of taiwan. There were about 25 to 400 people on the nsc staff during the trump administration.
