It was quite complicated, but only compared with western europe at the time. There were a load of behavior or codes about where you could sit at royal banquets. The empire was portrayed as secretive and lots of lascivious stuff was going on. And so one example of this was, they were into quite a lot of sexual things that the west didn't appreciate. Yet there's some question mark over how true this account is.
