In the mid 19th century Scandinavian countries were deeply unequal. There is not some genius loci at work in Scandinavian that makes everyone happy, collectivist, straight. The switch point in Scandinavia from being highly proprietary to social democracy was a program of work that we can study historically. And those small focus historical studies couldn't be slotted into this bigger framework that Piketty provides us.
