The Kaveri Engine Is the Framework for the Next Generation of Fighter Planes

The Kaveri engine can be reconfigured, repurposed for various cruise missiles perhaps. It needs to cross the 100 kilo Newton's thrust threshold and hopefully we should be able to do that. The French company Saaffra has been involved in some aspects of its development or maybe some other engine's development. So yeah, that is the major Achilles heel when it comes to Indian fighter plane development - a reliable indigenous engine.
