i've been doing this for years, and it seemed like people enjoyed it. This is something that i've also seen in some professors. The one thing is, he does seem like he was a very popular, good teacher. So that makes me think maybe most of the time, got away with this kind of stuff. If what you get positive letters from female undergroud saying, 'I really enjoyed your class' can see being surprised at somebody filing a complaint. It's just, shi gets complicated.
